Getting Lost On Halloween

Once upon a time there lived a bunch of teenagers.Their names were Tori, carly,Paul and Fred. They were trouble makers.

One day,the young troublemakers decided to get some attention by stealing some of their cousins lollies. Then their mother found out that they stole their cousin’s lollies and they had to go and get heaps of lollies and if they didn’t then they all had to be grounded for a whole month.

Then because it was halloween Tori,Carly,Paul and freddy got changed into their scariest halloween costumes and got 1bag each and then they went next door to their neighbour,Melissa’s house to get all of her lollies and to scare her.So they went up the stars and rung the doorbell.

AHH’ screamed Melissa.Right in front of her there stood 4 scary children. Then the children took off their costumes.’Hey kids, what a fright!you’re the ones that’s scared me the most and for that you get to have all of my lollies.’Thank You Melissa’,said the kids. Then they decided to go to the spooky forest to see if there were any houses in there. But Paul, the responsible one heard his mother's warning chanting loudly in his head so he turned around and said:”I think I’ll go home now because Mother said to never go into the forest or the bushes unless we had a adult to look after us do I think I’ll leave”.So he did.”Well he is on his own now lets turn left, but instead they went along the wrong way and then when they were in the center of the forest,Fred said”Hey guys,I think we're lost”.”Not for long Fred,I have my cell phone and It’s still fully charged with credit and a connection so now I could be able to ring 111.

Shortly, the rescue dog Lucy found the humans and did a triple bark and the cops came and rescued the kids. Then the children thanked everyone and walked home with a story to tell along with all of the lollies still in the bag.And they all lived happily ever after.

In the holidays

Today, on Saturday 30th of September at 7:30pm the rugby league grand final is on between the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Melbourne Storm. The Melbourne Storm won the match and the Bulldogs lost. My favourite players are Kristan Inu, Ben Barba and Michael Innis.
Even if the bulldogs lost they are still one of my favourite teams.

The Powhiri

  • The powhiri is the welcome ceremony for visitors at official occasions.
  • Most Powhiri begin with a karanga performed by senior women followed by a wero performed by one or more of the local warriors.
  • The warriors will challenge the warriors using intimidating movements with weapons such as the taiaha or patu.
  • The moves are designed to highlight the warriors skill with these weapons and deter any attacker.
  • The lead warrior will then lay down the kopere as a peace  offering for the visitors to accept prior to entry.
  • Having accepted the kopere, the visitors move onto the marae atea, the ground directly in front of the wharenui, and then move to the right, facing the building.
  • A roopu kapahaka may retrieve the words of welcome with tribal songs until the visitors are seated and ready to begin the formal speeches.
  • The speeches and songs that follow are considered part of the powhiri process.
  • The ceremony only concludes when each of the tangata whenua personally welcomes the manuhiri with a hongi.
  • It is this act of sharing breath that confirms the whanaungatanga and reaffirms the old maori adage,’Tihe I mauri ora-let there be life.’Sharing breath is as seen as sharing life.

Museum Trip

Hi and welcome, would you like to hear about the trip that the Glenbrae students from Auckland in years 3 to 7 participated in yesterday, Wednesday the 29th of  August 2012?
At 9:00am the students from years 3 to 7 at Glenbrae School participated in the trip to the Auckland City Museum to learn more about maori studies.
When the bell rang room 9’s teacher  Ms Joyce called the roll to see who who wasn't here to go on the trip to the museum. Then we waited for some of the children and the helpers to arrive before we went to the main court to get ready to get onto the bus to drive the nice museum.
Next we hopped onto the bus and the next class came on to the bus. after us. Now the bus looks crowded and is filled with people. After that, when we arrived at the museum, people slowly got off and went to their teachers or the parent helpers that the teacher gave us.
Finally we went into the museum and a lady was there to greet us into the  museum. My favourite part was when we went into the volcano house because it was a whole new experience to find out more about volcanoes and what would happen if a volcano started to erupt in Auckland. Other parts were cool too and I really enjoyed it. Plus I learnt heaps of things in just one day.

Cyber smart tips

Challenges we face on using the internet as students:
  • Viruses in attachments.
  • Responsibility-appropriate content/web site
  • Pop ups - including adverts.
  • If unsure about content when you are trying to research, ask an  adult or caregiver.
  • Googling keywords for images can be deceiving.

Lisa and Freemantle

Once upon a time there lived a mermaid named Lisa and her best friend dolphin named Freemantle. They loved to go on lots of adventures and solve mysteries while they swam around the very big cities of Mermaid Island.

One day when they were swimming,a net fell on Freemantle and he dodged but he was too late.Lisa thought a little bit  then she remembered that when she was born, the Queen Mermaid crowned her the Princess of Mermaid Island and gave her powers at the main palace of Mermaid Island, but she also crowned Freemantle as the prince of mermaid Island and gave him powers to save peoples lives and solve problems that the other people make on the Island.

After that Lisa says ‘Ok Freemantle, here's what we're going to do,you go back a bit while I use my Mermaid powers to free you from that net and then we’ll pay those fishermen a little visit, what do you say Freemantle’?.Then Freemantle said ‘ok  Lisa lets do it.So then Lisa made a hole in the net for Freemantle but while the fishermen kept struggling but when Lisa used her powers the net fell back on the boat.

Next Lisa and Freemantle went up to the fishermen and said’Why are you fishing here?this Island belongs to us, Mermaids. The fishermen then said’Well we didn't know that Mermaids live here’.So Lisa thought a little bit then said ‘I am going to put a curse around Mermaid Island and if  you come back to this Island with nets and place them in the water then the curse will be detected then something will happen to you’.

so then Lisa quickly wrote down on a piece of paper a contract and they made a deal that every now and then they would visit without nets and as soon they set the deal, they said goodbye to each other then they all left and so every  few weeks the fishermen would visit Lisa and Freemantle. And of course they lived happily ever after.

After School

Kia Ora everyone. I would like to tell you all about my wonderful  day I had yesterday after school.
My sister came to pick me and my little sister up. I asked her ‘Where is dad’? she told me that he was at the doctors and we were going to pick him up. So  we drove to the doctors and waited for him to come out. Not long after we saw him come out of the doctors and came into the car, he told my sister to drive the car home please. My sister started the car and drove home. When we got home I went  straight to my room and got changed into my home clothes and carefully ran down the stairs, got the TV remote from the couch and I turned the TV on and watched Spongebob Squarepants. We made dinner and finished watching my favourite movie, H20 just add water. When it finished it was five o’clock and the news was on and my mum came home. We had dinner and this was at seven o’clock. After that I had a shower and got changed into my pyjamas and brushed my teeth ready for bed at eight thirty. I enjoyed my day because I went to school and learnt lots of things and had heaps of fun.

Claire and Harold

On Monday 19 March 2012 four year five girls named Manuae, Tauola, Deandra, Alisi and I( from Room 9) ran down to visit Harold and Claire with Room 10 who were already there. We had a discussion about what friends do and what friends don’t do. An important message for me was that good friends are responsible.

Next we watched the screen about Ozone. We were amazed about how many months our blood cells lasted.
Next we went to catch up with Harold.
Then we watched how our food gets down into our tummy two times. After that we said goodbye to Claire and Harold and ran back to class to get ready for lunch.
I enjoyed going to the Life Education Caravan because I learnt a lot about the human body and about friends.

Walking in the rain to the pools

Today 8 March 2012 the students of room nine at Glenbrae School walked down to the Glen  Innes  swimming pool  in the freezing rain. When we walked into the big pools we went to the non swimming area, got changed out of our uniform and had to go and have a little shower to rinse all of the germs off us before we went into the pool to swim. After that we went into our group in our part of the pool we said hello to our instructor and started our swimming lessons. We started off with kicking with our head up all the way to halfway .Next we had to do the same thing but this time we had to put our head on our chest and swim to halfway. After that we did arm circles all the way to halfway. Then we used the swimming boards to kick to halfway. After everyone finished having a few turns, we said goodbye to our instructor and she gave us a high-five. I enjoyed my visit to the pool because because I got to have time with a swimming instructor.
